Yom Kippur War
1973 CE
Egypt and Syria launched a surprise attack on Israel on the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. After early Arab gains, Israel counterattacked across the Suez Canal and into the Golan Heights. The war triggered the 1973 oil crisis and reshaped Middle Eastern geopolitics.
