Eritrean War of Independence

1961 CE – 1991 CE · 30 years

A 30-year guerrilla war — one of the longest in African history — fought by Eritrean separatists against the Ethiopian Empire and then the communist Derg regime. Eritrea finally gained independence in 1993 after the EPLF captured Asmara.
