Second Schleswig War
1864 CE
Bismarck engineered a war over the Schleswig-Holstein question, with Prussia and Austria jointly defeating Denmark. The joint occupation of the duchies set the stage for the Austro-Prussian War two years later — exactly as Bismarck planned.
