Carlist Wars

1833 CE – 1876 CE · 43 years

Three civil wars fought over the Spanish succession between liberal supporters of Queen Isabella II and traditionalist Carlist pretenders. The wars devastated northern Spain and entrenched the military's role in Spanish politics that persisted into the 20th century.
