Major Cold War proxy conflict pitting republican revolutionaries backed by 60,000 Egyptian troops against royalist forces supported by Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Often called 'Egypt's Vietnam' due to the enormous Egyptian commitment and grinding guerrilla warfare.
