Wars of the Lombard League

1160 CE – 1183 CE · 23 years

Northern Italian city-states formed the Lombard League to resist Emperor Frederick Barbarossa's attempts to reassert imperial control. Their victory at Legnano secured communal self-government for the Italian cities.
