Ghana–Almoravid Conflict
1054 CE – 1083 CE · 29 years
The Almoravids seized the Saharan trade town of Awdaghust in 1054 and pressured the Ghana Empire through the following decades, traditionally credited with capturing Koumbi Saleh around 1076. Modern scholars dispute the scale of the conquest but agree Almoravid pressure coincided with Ghana's Islamization and decline.
