Arab Revolt (WWI)

1916 CE – 1918 CE · 2 years

Arab tribes, encouraged by British promises of independence and aided by T.E. Lawrence ('Lawrence of Arabia'), revolted against Ottoman rule. The capture of Damascus helped end Ottoman control, but the Sykes-Picot Agreement and Balfour Declaration betrayed Arab hopes for independence.
