Tibetan Uprising
1959 CE
Popular Tibetan revolt against Chinese Communist rule, centred on Lhasa. The uprising was brutally suppressed by PLA forces, forcing the Dalai Lama to flee to India with 80,000 followers. An estimated 87,000 Tibetans were killed in the uprising and subsequent repression.
