Spanish-American War

1898 CE

The U.S. defeated Spain in a brief war, ending Spain's centuries-old colonial empire. Cuba gained nominal independence, while the U.S. acquired the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Guam — emerging as a global imperial power.
