Salvadoran Civil War

1979 CE – 1992 CE · 13 years

A 12-year civil war between the U.S.-backed military government and leftist FMLN guerrillas. The war was marked by death squads, the assassination of Archbishop Óscar Romero, and the El Mozote massacre. 75,000 people were killed before UN-brokered peace accords ended the conflict.
