Ogaden War

1977 CE – 1978 CE · 1 year

Somalia invaded the Ogaden region of Ethiopia, initially capturing 90% of the disputed territory. A dramatic Cold War reversal saw the Soviets switch from backing Somalia to Ethiopia. A massive Soviet airlift and Cuban expeditionary force drove Somalia back, reshaping the Horn of Africa.
