Angolan Civil War

1975 CE – 2002 CE · 27 years

A 27-year proxy war between the Soviet-backed MPLA government and the US-backed UNITA rebels that killed 500,000–800,000 people. The Battle of Cuito Cuanavale in 1988 was one of the largest battles in Africa since World War II.
