New Zealand Wars (Maori Wars)

A series of conflicts between the British colonial government and various Maori tribes over land and sovereignty. The Maori proved innovative fighters, building sophisticated trench-and-bunker pā fortifications that anticipated WWI trench warfare by half a century.
