Great Turkish War

1683 CE – 1699 CE · 16 years

The Ottoman Empire's failed siege of Vienna in 1683 triggered a 16-year war that permanently rolled back Ottoman power in Europe. The Holy League recaptured Hungary and much of the Balkans — the first time the Ottomans lost major European territory.
