First Anglo-Afghan War

1839 CE – 1842 CE · 3 years

Britain invaded Afghanistan to install a puppet ruler but met fierce resistance. The 1842 retreat from Kabul became one of the worst military disasters in British history — of 16,500 soldiers and camp followers, only one European survivor reached Jalalabad.
