Chaco War

1932 CE – 1935 CE · 3 years

The deadliest South American conflict of the 20th century, fought over the arid Gran Chaco region believed to hold oil. Bolivia lost despite having a larger army, and Paraguay gained most of the disputed territory at the cost of nearly 100,000 lives on both sides.
