Malagasy Uprising

1947 CE – 1948 CE · 1 year

Nationalist rebellion against French colonial rule in Madagascar, beginning with coordinated surprise attacks on military bases. France crushed the revolt with Foreign Legion troops. Between 30,000 and 89,000 Malagasy were killed, many from disease and starvation during repression.
