Greek Civil War

1946 CE – 1949 CE · 3 years

The first major proxy conflict of the Cold War. The Truman Doctrine was formulated specifically in response to this conflict, committing the U.S. to supporting 'free peoples' against communist insurgency and marking the formal start of Cold War containment policy.
