Franco-Dutch War

1672 CE – 1678 CE · 6 years

Louis XIV invaded the Dutch Republic with 120,000 troops in the 'Disaster Year' of 1672. The Dutch opened their dikes to flood the countryside, halting the French advance. William of Orange emerged as stadtholder and built the coalition that would check French ambitions for decades.
